Day Tours — Lincoln Day Flight

Choose your day of flying fun!

• This is a daily Tour for Flying Adventures as detailed below, and is on a self-drive basis. A minimum of two persons and a maximum of 6 persons can participate at any one time.

• Your meals and accommodation are at your own expense; however, a full lunch pack is provided for each daily flying adventure which should be collected from us each day.
• Each of the 5 adventures are located within easy driving distance from our base at Lincoln Cottages situated in Pietermaritzburg. Full accommodation can also be provided at a nominal fee should you so wish.

Logistics: Flying and other activities as detailed as per the itinerary. The daily packages can be customised to suit individual tastes, however Gliding can only be experienced on a Sunday, while Microlight flying and Flying at Pietermaritzburg Aero Club must be undertaken on a week day.
To experience the Hot Air Ballooning adventure, it is advisable for you to be accommodated with us on the night before the launch, due to the very early morning departure for the next day of your adventure, prices available on request.

• Your Choice (dependent on Day) of Flying, Gliding, Microlighting, Helicopter Flight, Hot-Air Ballooning, Ziplining.
• Activities per itinerary on day of choice.

THURSDAY : LET’S FLY – A TICKET FOR TAKE OFF!

09:45 : Arrive at Lincoln Cottages, for brief outline of your reserved daily activities and discussions surrounding logistics for your adventures for the day.
11:00 : Arrive at Pietermaritzburg Aero Club and learn to fly the Cessna – 172 one of the world’s most versatile training aircraft. Flight briefing in preparation for flying training. Meet Telani who is the Chief Flying Instructor (C.F.I.) of Pietermaritzburg Aero Club who will guide and prepare you for the essential knowledge needed for your intensive flying training. Now is a good time to ask as many questions as possible concerning your experience aloft — not for the faint of heart!
11:45 : Flying training
Break away from flying – GO! Go-Kart racing at Liberty Midlands Mall.
Lunch at Pietermaritzburg Aero Club.

FRIDAY : ARE YOU READY TO FLY LITE — MICROLIGHT & HELICOPTER

OPTIONAL EXTRA: The day’s activities include a return helicopter flight from Durban to the PheZulu Cultural Village. The cost of this flight and the excursions can be deleted from the adventure, if not required.
08:15 : Depart for Umkomaas Microlight Flying School.
09:45 : Arrive at World of Wings Flying Club. Meet Noel McDonogh your instructor for flying training on the versatile Microlight aircraft. Experience exhilarating wave-top flying and flight over beaches and spectacular views of Umkomaas River valley. Visit Clanstal Beach walk along beach and admire pristine seas and green coastal belt. Optional visit to Scottburgh beach for a quick swim in the Indian Ocean.
12:15 : Lunch at World of Wings.
13:45 : Arrive at Virginia airport for an exhilarating Helicopter flight via the scenic Umgeni River valley. Destination - PheZulu Safari Park Cultural Village, situated in the heart of the Valley of a 1000 Hills.
14:30 : PheZulu Village. Experience traditional Zulu dancing and enjoy a refreshing drink before boarding the Safari vehicle for a one-hour Game Drive. Marvel at the prolific wildlife, including Zebra, Giraffe, Wildebeest and many species of Antelope.

16.00 : Fly back to Virginia Airport.

SATURDAY : HOT! HOT! HOT AIR BALLOONING

05:45 : Arrive at Balloon launch site to meet Warwick Cook your Tour Guide and Instructor, who will launch the balloon half an hour after sunrise, to float effortlessly above the African Bush. Spend an hour aloft away from the cares and bonds of the earth.

08:15 : Return to Balloon launch site for Champagne breakfast. End of days planned activities.
10.00 : Balance of the day at leisure. Why not travel to the Howick Waterfall, to admire the spectacular cascading water from the Umgeni River as it plummets 111m down into the pool far below. The falls are called by the Zulu KwaNogqaza, which means 'Place of the Tall One', and walk to the nearby traditional Zulu handy craft stalls and purchase that special curio. Visit Piggly Wiggly outdoor activity centre and restaurants on the Midlands Meander. Stop at Florentines Belgian Chocolate shop and purchase some of their famous handmade chocolate on the way to Piggly Wiggly.

SUNDAY : SMOOTH GLIDING

Arrive at Howick Flying Club for your Gliding experience.

07.30 – 12.30 : Gliding at Howick. Meet Tex Impey who will instruct you on the techniques of flying a Glider while gliding effortlessly over the Howick Waterfall and Midmar Dam. Visit the nearby Midmar Dam and Nature reserve.
13:00 : Afternoon picnic lunch at Midmar Dam recreational area.

MONDAY : ZIPLINE SWINGING CANOPY EXPERIENCE

An opportunity to experience an amazing zipline experience at Karkloof Canopy Tour. Here ten individual ziplines are suspended high above the tree top canopy below you.
11.00 : Travel to the launch site of the Karkloof Canopy Tour – an unforgettable adventure.
Why not also plan a visit to the nearby spectacular Karkloof Water falls en route to the launch site.
12.00 – 14.00 : Enjoy the Karkloof Canopy Tour and forest, an amazing experience to zipline over the forest, to relax briefly on a platform before taking off on the next ride, while admiring the large trees and ferns below you, wonder at the amazing prolific bird life and perhaps spot the elusive Samango Monkeys which call this forest their home.
